The Humors: Improvisational Theatre is a different kind of improv troupe from what most people may be used to. We focus on improv as a theatre art form rather than just a popular form of entertainment; though, we do seek to be highly entertaining. We have a commitment to intelligent, clean, uplifting humor that is engaging for people at every age.
The ancient Greek physician Hippocrates believed the human body contained four humors, or substances, that had to be in balance with each other for optimum physical and emotional health. Though we now know the humor theory to be incorrect, The Humors, as an improvisation troupe, believes that humor can be used to bring a little balance or relief to our lives, and can bring us closer together. There is something special about the experience of an audience and live performers all "in on" the same creative experience. There's something satisfying as well as entertaining about it.
Our approach is generally to interview or interact with people from the audience as individuals, families, couples, friends, co-workers, etc. and find out aout their lives, jobs, habits, feelings, or other topics and then use that information as the foundation for a series of related comedic improv scenes exploring that material, a theatrical version of a musician’s jam session, if you will. In this way, the audience does more than just shout out some basic suggestions for the troupe to improv about. They are directly involved in the creative process. We try to sense what the audience is interested in, what is on their minds that night, or what seems to be their group attitude. This creates a pretty dynamic and intimate experience for both the audience and the performers.
